Title: Towards Automated Fact-checking: Beyond Determining the Veracity of Claims

Abstract: Social media and the Web are increasingly being used as a source for gathering information and for learning about the latest developments in the news in an unprecedented pace and level of coverage. However, online sources come with the caveat that they often tend to be rife with misinformation, which is hard to detect. In this talk I will cover some of my recent research in this direction, aiming (1) to improve interfaces to help users identify what's fake, (2) to leverage the evolving nature of social media content through sequential classifiers for rumour detection, and (3) to assist fact-checkers with automated means to detect claims to be fact-checked.
